Steven Jacobs

Biographical Info

Steven Jacobs is the new Instructional Technology Librarian at Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU). He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music with a dual focus in Music Technology and Jazz Performance (trumpet) from Capital University and a Master’s Degree in Library Science from The University of Alabama.

Steven began his library career in Chicago, Illinois, working in the Adult Services Department at the Warren-Newport Public Library (WNPL) and as a Technology Instructor at the Lake Forest Library. He later transitioned into the role of Web Services Librarian at WNPL before moving to Charlotte, where he served as Media Coordinator at Garinger High School. Steven then gained experience in academic librarianship at Central Piedmont Community College before joining JCSU.

In his current role at JCSU, Steven manages the library’s information literacy instruction program, Makerspace, and the Creative Hub design suites. He is passionate about empowering students and staff to reach their goals by leveraging JCSU’s technological resources. Steven also seeks to help educate the JCSU community about the rapidly changing AI landscape and its potential to transform the global economy in the near future.

Outside of work, Steven enjoys competing professionally in disc golf tournaments, teaching disc golf lessons, and is an avid Magic: The Gathering gamer.
